My name is Kendra Atkins-Boyce. Today, I’m so thrilled to be the mother of two gorgeous daughters, but after my first daughter Karys was born during a traumatic emergency C-section in 2009, I struggled to feel connected to her. I was simultaneously overjoyed to meet this tiny human who had grown inside me and devastated that her birth did not turn out the way I had planned. I spent several years and thousands of dollars trying to cope with the overwhelming feelings of grief and disappointment over her birth, which lead me to a long period of postpartum depression and anxiety. I did not feel “good enough” to be her mother, and the fog I was trudging through made me miss some parts of her early life that I’ll never recover.
I slowly found my way out of the fog, and I became committed to healing myself and doing birth differently. I’ve supported many women as a certified birth doula, and I gave birth to my second daughter Saryn at home in 2017, surrounded by Karys, my husband Steve, my mom, and my wonderful midwives. Because I had found the perfection in Karys’s birth, I was able to trust that Saryn’s birth would unfold exactly as it was meant to.
As a birth trauma doula, I share the wisdom I have gained while trying to find my way home to myself. I’ll help you feel heard, seen, and understood. Together, we’ll find your way through the fog and back to the rainbow of your full self.
